School Clubs
River Trail Middle School offers a wide array of clubs for its students. Our goal is that every student, if they choose, to find a club that suits their needs. Clubs meet at various days and times. Students who are interested in joining a club, must contact the sponsor for more information. Students who are interested in starting a club, please contact Ms. Chanthaphonh.
Please remember that students need a pass from a teacher or staff member to attend any before-school event.

Academic Team / Quiz Bowl

Competitive academic team covering math, science, social studies, language arts, and current events. Team members prepare for academic competitions, strengthen critical-thinking skills, and represent RTMS in competition.

Bollywood Dance Club

Students learn Hip-Hop Bollywood dance and perform at International Night while also learning dances for fun.

Be The Voice is a student-led, video-based program designed to improve school climate, strengthen student relationships, and support positive culture change throughout River Trail Middle School. Students work together to promote positive messages and be leaders within the school community. If you want to see a change, be the change, be the voice!

Chess Club

Students can practice and play chess for fun or participate on the competition team. No tryout is required to join Chess Club.
Creative Writing Club

Students explore fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction while creating, sharing, and learning about publishing original work. Members give and receive feedback in a positive environment.
Culinary Club

The Culinary Club is open to all grade levels and has limited membership. Twenty-four students will be selected through a lottery process.
Additional Information: Selected students must pay a $45 activity fee. Applications are due by August 27, and the lottery will be held August 28. Applications must be completed with a parent present.
Debate Club

DIY Jewelry & Craft Club

Drama/Musical

The annual spring musical is open to all students in grades 6-8. Students audition in the fall and rehearse beginning in January.

Dungeons & Dragons

This club is for students interested in exploring the world of Dungeons & Dragons and other role-playing game systems. Students should be able to attend consistently and enjoy storytelling, collaboration, and imaginative adventures. While there is no strict membership cap, the club can accommodate up to 30 students. Students are responsible for arriving by 8:15 AM.

FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes)

FCA brings students together to grow in their Christian faith, serve others, and build meaningful relationships. The club welcomes all students seeking a supportive Christian faith-based community. Members enjoy fellowship, conversation, and donuts.

Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl

Students read ten selected books and compete in a Jeopardy-style reading competition. A final team of 5-10 students will be selected for competition.
International Club

Students learn about, share, and celebrate cultures from around the world through activities and presentations that promote appreciation of diversity.

Open to all students interested in mathematics. A school competition determines the 14 students who will represent RTMS in chapter competition, with opportunities to advance to state and national levels.
Podcast Club

Students learn how to plan, record, and edit podcasts. Members work on RTMS's podcast, Off The Trail, by interviewing students and staff and creating original content. No experience is necessary.

Plant a Change is a youth-led club that connects STEM education and ecological innovation with sustainability and climate action. This engaging club provides leadership opportunities for students while educating members about climate change and eco-friendly solutions. Pokémon Club

Fans of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, video games, and cartoons can gather to trade cards, play games, talk about Pokémon, and participate in special events.
Recycling Club

Students collect and recycle paper from classrooms and offices to reduce waste, support environmental sustainability, and keep the school clean.
Science Olympiad

A competitive STEM team dedicated to science education and achievement. Membership is limited to 60 students and participation is by invitation following tryouts.

Science Bowl

Science Bowl is an academic competition club that prepares students for participation in the National Science Bowl (NSB), a nationwide competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. Students practice and build knowledge in biology, chemistry, Earth science, physics, energy, and mathematics while developing teamwork and quick-thinking skills in a fast-paced quiz-bowl format. Teams compete against other schools in regional tournaments, with opportunities to advance through higher levels of competition.

Additional Information: National Science Bowl teams consist of four students and one alternate. Competitions begin each year in January and involve thousands of middle and high school students across the country.

Yearbook is a selected group of students who demonstrate creativity, responsibility, and leadership. Members help capture school memories, conduct interviews, take photographs, design pages, and create the annual yearbook. Yo-Yo Club

The Yo-Yo Club welcomes beginners and experienced students alike. Members learn and practice tricks with support from experienced students and high school volunteers, with a goal of performing at International Night.
