Meet the Teachers
Colleen Cowan: My name is Ms. Cowan, and this is my third-year teaching. I grew up in Woodstock, GA. I graduated from KSU with a degree in Secondary Education in History. I have taught high school and middle school social studies. I am part of the Harry Potter Club, Culinary Club, and Cultural Awareness Committee here at RTMS. In my free time I enjoy reading, doing puzzles, and trying new and exciting places to eat. I look forward to an exciting year with my students as we explore the world through the lens of Social Studies! E-mail: cowanm@fultonschools.org
Genetaar Hawkins: I am Genetaar Hawkins. This is my 23rd year as an educator and my third year as a 7th grade Social Studies teacher at River Trail. Currently, I am the associate head varsity girl's basketball coach at Northview High, and I am also the JV baseball and JV girls' basketball head coach. Over the past eight summers, I've been a director of a Talented and Gifted Program at UC Berkeley. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my with wife and three daughters. I also enjoy producing music, playing drums, and gaming. E-mail: hawkinsg@fultonschools.org
Grace Hernandez: This is my 10th year teaching and my 7th at RTMS. I currently live in Lawrenceville with my husband, son, and dog. Education has always been a part of me; I’m a lifelong learner! I love to be in school and I make it my mission for students to feel motivated to come and enjoy learning as much as possible. As a former Language Arts teacher, I feel that reading and writing is important in all subjects and the more you do it, the better you become. Social Studies is my favorite thing to teach as it is so important to understand where we come from and how our world has evolved to our present. I like to summarize Social Studies with a quote from Anne Frank, “How wonderful it is that no one need wait a single moment before improving the world.” E-mail: hernandezge@fultonschools.org
