Science Department Teachers
Ms. Singletary
Hi! My name is Amanda Singletary and I am teaching Physical Science. I have been married 3 years and this will be my second year teaching as well. I have 12 reptiles and a tarantula, plus one cat at home. I enjoy sharing the experience of reptiles with children and adults alike as we learn a healthy respect for things in nature and in our homes when they are pets.
Dr. Johnson
I am from a small town in Southeast Kansas. I have always had an enthusiasm for science and learning. I would never have believed all the adventures I have been on if you told me about them when I was a teenager. I have taught elementary to college level students and have met so many wonderful people along the way. I was selected to be part of a program called Towards Other Planetary Systems with the University of Hawaii. This adventured changed my LIFE!. I was invited to the University of Arizona’s Teacher and Teacher Education program where I work with Southern Arizona Teachers in implementing Great Explorations in Math and Science (GEMS) kits and curriculum. Needless to say, moving from a small town in Kansas to Arizona was a huge ‘out of my comfort zone’ time. A teacher I met through TOPS convinced me to come to Georgia and teach after I earned my PhD in Teaching and Teacher Education and Astronomy Education. What a wild ride life is, we never know where we are going to land. I am so blessed to be a teacher at River Trail Middle School
Mr. Paulk
I am a graduate of Emory University. I’ve earned a Master’s degree in math and science. I have a specialist certification in education and leadership. I’ve been teaching for 31 years. I’ve taught in south Dekalb, Buford, and for the last 6 years I’ve been part of the River Trail family. I’ve had students take the top honors at the state science fair, and last year we took the top spot at the state for chess. I look forward to another wonderful year with my River Trail Students and Parents.
Ms. DiMaggio
I am an alumnus of The University of North Georgia where I have a degree in biology and chemistry. Somewhere on the road of studying to become a veterinarian, working with tigers, and becoming a mother, I realized that my true passion was to teach. This is my 12th year teaching 8th grade science and my 5th year at River Trail! I live with my husband, 13 year old daughter Lorelei, 7 year old son Landon, 4 cats, 1 dog, a turtle, a hamster and several fish! I enjoy reading, crafting, and musical theatre. I also sponsor the Jr Beta Club and direct the spring musical!
Ms. Gilbert
My name is Alison Gilbert and this is my 24th year teaching. My husband Ron and I have lived in Georgia for 36 years and have 3 sons and 3 grandchildren. We enjoy spending time with friends and participating in 5K races to support our favorite causes.
Ms. Callaway
Donna Callaway is a proud graduate of the University of Georgia. She has been teaching for 12 years and is thrilled to serve as the SEC department chair at River Trail Middle School. Donna began her professional life as a lighting designer for theatre and film before her second career in education. She loves hiking with her family, her husband, and kids aged 14 and 16.
